Cosmetics bags have panache

Chain Drug Review, March 17, 2008

NEW YORK -- While cosmetics bags have always served a utilitarian purpose, they are now increasingly functioning as a fashion statement as well.

This trend has induced the leading suppliers in the cosmetics accessories category to offer a growing collection of fashionforward items.

Markwins International Inc., for example, is poised to launch its spring/summer collection from Soho--a comprehensive selection of fashionable cosmetics bags, jewelry cases, beauty accessories and personal lifestyle items for women.

"This season's bags take inspiration from trends around the world," notes a Soho spokeswoman. "Soho bags are designed with fashion in mind and made using trendy fabric prints."

The versatile bags can transform from casual day to chic night accessories, she adds.

Six trends are evident in the lastest Soho offering, including sport, garden and rustic. Decorative hardware adds a stylish touch.

"By partnering with Soho a retailer embraces a lifestyle brand that combines cutting-edge fashion with solution-based designs," says Shawn Haynes, Markwins' senior vice president of marketing for global brand development.

"Part of Soho's mission is to stay on trend all of the time, which is our recipe for sustaining growth."

All bags in the collection range in pace from $5.99 to $16.99.

Meanwhile, Plano Molding Co. is offering a wide selection of cosmetics organizers in its Caboodles line.

"We offer a huge line of organizers, from the Auto Pro case, which opens up to reveal tray after tray so that beauty products can be neatly stored, to the On the Go Girl case, which comes with a mirror and several handy compartments," says a company spokesman.

The company is also currently offering the Caboodles Crystal Clear Super Tray for clear acrylic storage.
