Dear reader,
The past 11 months have offered very little joy to aficionados of both the trade and the general press. Since the sudden onset of the global recession in September last year, the news has been uniformly depressing. The optimism barometer plunged downward along with the world economy.
But of late there appear to be hints that the mood may be shifting. In certain cases, this is indicated by economic data that is certainly more upbeat than that which we have seen for the last nine months or so. In other cases, the positive attitude is reflected in initiatives undertaken by the industry itself. It would be premature to declare that the crisis is behind us, but it is beginning to appear as if recovery is just around the corner.
