The ancient Maya city of Copan, in southwestern Honduras, boasts a venerable history of archaeological investigation. More than one hundred years ago the Peabody Museum of Harvard University staked its claim on studies of the ancient Maya with an expedition to Copan. The Carnegie Institution of Washington conducted work at the site in the 1930s.
