Taiwan has become synonymous with high technology and many US firms, such as Compaq Computer, IBM, and Dell Computer have a large percentage of their products made there. In addition, many Taiwanese come to the US to expand their skills and return to start businesses of their own. Discussed companies include Giant Manufacturing Co and Microtek International Inc.

young companies that are thriving in this island nation's high-tech economy.
