As major marketing offensives are being waged under the banner of e-business, collaboration becomes the competitive mode. One way to achieve it at the design level is with PIVOTAL, a collaborative prototyping and knowledge management tool offered by Centric Software Inc., San Jose. Already adopted by Boeing Co.
and Volvo AB, the product allows a lot of different people, with lots of different jobs, both inside and outside an organization to look at, collaborate on, share, and generally work with all sorts of data, whether made by a CAD system, general office tools (e.g., Microsoft Office), or other electronic authoring tools. In addition, PIVOTAL allows them to plan their work and automate the sequence of events that has to happen if a certain scenario occurs...
