Industry Week, January, 2000
After middle managers were downsized in the 1980s, the management knowledge base dried up at many corporations. Those companies have turned to graduate business schools to replenish their ranks. Graduates from these 80 institutions will make on average more than $67,000 in their first year. In the past 10 years average compensation packages have increased by 30%. The return on investment is even greater for M.B.A. grads entering the consulting industry--Stanford graduates can expect a first-year package of as much as $165,000.
