Industry Week, April, 2001 by JUSKO, JILL

USX-U.S. Steel Group's Mon Valley Works has been named "plant of the year" for 2001 by the Dept. of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) for its demonstrated energy-savings achievements from projects implemented during the qualifying period.

This is the first time the OIT has given this award.

The Mon Valley Works is comprised of two plants: the Edgar Thomson plant, in Braddock, Pa., and the Irvin plant, which is located in West Mifflin, Pa. In outlining the Mon Valley Works' achievements, the OIT included the Edgar Thomson plant's energy-conservation team and the facility's contribution to two energy-saving technical case studies that should result in $6.1 million in annual energy savings. The Irwin plant also created an energy team.
