SGI offers Linux for visualization.(Emerging Technologies)(Brief Article)

The Linux operating systems helps Silicon Graphics' Prism open a new level of visualization performance for a wide variety of industrial and scientific tasks. Intel's Itanium 2 processors are part of the architecture.

Able to address terabyte-sized highly complex data as a single image, the system helps users quickly grasp complicated relationships within data. Ultimately, that leads to deeper, faster understanding of the issues in tasks such as product development, says SGI's Simon Hayhurst, product line manager. Mountain View, Calif. He expects the power of the visualization tool to dramatically pare time-to-market for a wide variety of complex products.
