We project the station, cable and DBS market in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) to expand from $54.3bn in 2000, to $766bn by 2005, a seven per cent compound annual increase. Subscription spending will increase by 11.1 per cent compounded annually, rising to $49.6bn in 2005 from $29.3bn in 2000. Public station licence fees will increase from $25bn to $27bn, growing at a 1.6 per cent rate.
Western Europe will be the slowest-growing area, primarily because licence fees comprise a large component of spending. The distribution market in Western Europe will grow at a 6.5 per cent rate, reaching $65.7bn in 2005 from $48bn in 2000.
