Paris investor to buy 80% of Adidas AG
PARIS (FNS) -- French investor-politician Bernard Tapie's agreement to purchase an 80-percent stake in Adidas AG last week created more questions than answers about the financially strapped West German sporting goods concern, which does about 55 percent of its business in athletic footwear, European financial analysts said.
The industry awaited a Tapie statement expected today for some clarification regarding how his company, Bernard Tapie Finance, would pay the reported $400 million-$500 million price for his Adidas share. Tapie also is expected to name his financial backers today.
