A spiffier Nina cleans up in Dec.

NEW YORK - New lasts, toe characters and heels have brought a fresh look to Nina and its sister division Seven Star, helping drive December '90 orders 50 percent higher than year-earlier levels, said Scott Silverstein, executive vice president.

Even taking into account business having stagnated a bit in recent seasons due to tired looks, as well as the additional sales from Nina's expanded evening collection, Silverstein said, "It's still a very substantial increase over two years ago."

"We got caught at the end of a cycle of plain dress shoes, but going forward it looks good," Silverstein continued. "People sat down and left orders at the (December) show."
