A review of First Ladies and their fashion statements is presented. The first First Lady who made a significant fashion impact was Jacqueline Kennedy. Her pillbox hats and suits were copied by women across the United States. Nancy Reagan also left behind a definitive fashion statement. She popularized Reagan red and was known as the perfect wife. However, the fashion statement uniting all First Ladies is a pair of pumps.

Pumps are the fashion of choice for First Ladies from 1960 to the present.

Bess Truman was motherly. Mamie Eisenhower had bangs. But it wasn't until 1960 when Jacqueline Kennedy came to the White House that we started thinking about the fashion power of the First Ladies.
