Dallas, TX, retailers, especially shoe stores, feared overwhelming competition from the new Nordstrom Inc. store that opened Mar 22, 1996, at the Galleria. Sellers of moderately-priced shoes found that sales increased about 11%, compared with the same period in 1995. However, retailers of more expensive shoes reported only a rise in customer traffic. Nordstrom plans to open a new store in Troy, MI, in Aug 1996.
