Tiger Woods' record-breaking victory at the 1997 Masters golf tournament resulted in massive exposure for Nike Inc., the footwear and apparel giant which signed Woods to a $40 million endorsement contract in 1996. Nike hopes that Woods' early success will translate into a surge in sales of Nike golf apparel and accessories; Nike plans to release Tiger Woods signature footwear and apparel in 1998.
