NEW YORK -- After an exhaustive search for a new chief, Barneys has finally landed Allen I. Questrom.
Last week, the New York-based retailer brought the former Federated Department Stores chairman and chief executive out of a two-year retirement and named him chairman and CEO of Barneys New York.
Questrom abruptly left Federated in May 1997, a year before his contract was set to expire. During his hiatus, he was active on the social and charity circuits, keeping the industry guessing about his next move. He was uncertain about his plans until making the decision to join Barneys.
