At the break of each day, hoards of runners descend upon New York's Central Park to clock in their miles around the reservoir, or the big loop. Some are serious distance runners who are training for the city's annual marathon or are members of the New York Road Runners Club. Others, however, are just trying to stay or get in shape.

No matter what their ability levels, the runners Footwear News spotted on a hot July morning in Central Park opted for high-tech running shoes from the big athletic brands. Nike was most frequently seen on joggers' feet, followed by New Balance, Asics, Reebok and Adidas, in that order.
