NORTH FACE, SUITOR FLIRTING AS OLD FLAME KEEPS FIDDLING; ROSE, ABRAMS GROUP BUY UP 1.9 MILLION SHARES.

NEW YORK -- While one suitor to buy The North Face Inc. said it is re-evaluating whether to go through with an offer, the company may have found a new suitor.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on July 14, a group of investors led by Edward Rose III and Leigh Abrams revealed they and others in their group have acquired 1,195,600 shares of The North Face since January 22, originally "to hold primarily for investment."

But they are now, according to the filing, exploring a number of alternative courses of action including seeking to acquire Carbondale, Calif.,-based The North Face. The group made more than 50 purchases of The North Face shares in a matter of weeks in May and June, according to the filing.
