Located on the Riviera del Brenta, in Italy's Veneto region, Rene Caovilla's headquarters are surrounded by Renaissance villas designed in the 16th century by Palladio, one of the most influential architects in Italian history. The structural harmony of these villas, with their neoclassical lines and vibrant frescoes, is an ever-present influence on the shoe designer, who is renowned for his embroideries and inlays. In 1936, Caovilla's father, Edoardo, founded the family business, which Rene has since built into a $10 million operation. Here, the illustrious designer talks to FN about his inspirations, aspirations and prized celebrity client list.
