In the wake of the devastating terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. last Tuesday, organizers of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week cancelled the spring 2002 runway shows. On Tuesday, Sept. 11 at approximately 10 a.m., Fern Mallis, vice president and executive director of 7th on Sixth, who was attending the Douglas Hannant show, stepped onto the runway prior to the start of the event and asked the attendees to leave the tents in an orderly fashion. "The World Trade Center has just collapsed," she said. "The Pentagon has been hit. It is inappropriate to be having a fashion show."
