When Wayne Weaver left the helm of Nine West Group in 1993, he traded pumps for cleats, becoming the majority owner of The Jacksonville Jaguars football team. After making footwear history with his directional Margaret Jerrold line back in the 1960s, Jerry Miller retired to France in 1992 to write his memoirs. And Stanley Kravetz, whose career included stints at Timberland and Rockport, has only strayed a bit above the ankle from his roots in footwear, currently serving as president and CEO of sock producer Thorlo Inc. While this diverse group of former footwear executives agree that exciting possibilities exist beyond the shoe business, each of them acknowledges the important role the footwear industry played in their professional lives.
