Television shows like Survivor and Real World turn everyday people into instant celebrities, but can a home-shopping channel do the same? Apparently so.

Since 1996, Sally Combs (above), a national sales representative for Birkenstock, has appeared on nearly every one of QVC's Birkenstock segments. By now, Combs said, strangers frequently approach her on the streets, in airports and in malls and ask, "Hey, aren't you that Birkenstock girl?"

With her long blond ponytail, sparkly white teeth and Midwestern charm (she frequently jokes on air about her "Minnesowda" accent), "that Birkenstock girl" has become one of QVC's most visible figures.
