Dr. Martens to Move Production to China

Following the global footwear production exodus to China, R. Griggs Group, makers of Dr. Martens, said it plans to close its UK factories in search of far cheaper labor.

According to the BBC, an estimated 1,000 UK jobs are expected to be lost in the move, although the company plans to continue employing a number of local office and design staff.

"We regret very much the loss of jobs resulting from these proposed closures, but we will make every effort to help staff find alternative employment," said David Suddens, managing director at R. Griggs. "The offshore strategy is the first step in moving the company and the brand forward in a positive direction."
