NEW YORK -- The relocation of the Women's World Cup (WWC) from China to the United States is proving to be a boon for leading athletic industry players.
With tournament games set to begin in six U.S. cities on Saturday, retailers said last week they were seeing robust sales of soccer footwear. For their part, vendors said they are capitalizing on increased marketing opportunities now that the event is on domestic turf. As reported, FIFA, soccer's world governing body, decided in May that the 4th WWC should be moved to the United States because of the SARS epidemic in China.
