LOS ANGELES -- Global Brand Marketing Inc. is venturing into the burgeoning flip-flop category.

The Santa Barbara, Calif.-based company said last week it purchased the Fun Flopps label from founder Linda Spann, marking its first acquisition since the firm bought Pony in March 2003.

According to CEO Killick Datta, the flip-flop and sandal market is an important category for the company to enter, given its growth potential.

"We think it's a big market, and if we're really going to be a big, multi-branded business, we needed a flip-flop beach line," he told Footwear News last week."This gives us the opportunity to get into that market."
