Online footwear and apparel sales continue to show skyrocketing growth, according to Shop.org's "The State of Retailing Online" report, out today. The study, conducted by Forrester Research, reveals that the footwear, accessories and apparel category grew by 61 percent in 2006. The category now accounts for $18.3 billion in sales and is the second-largest online segment (behind travel), outpacing computer hardware and software sales for the first time.
"The presence of new companies and liberal shipping polices in the apparel, accessories and footwear space no doubt contributed to this success," the report states, citing footwear newcomers such as Piperlime.com, Endless.com and 6pm.com. The report also points out that high-tech...
