NEW YORK - It was a mixed quarter for Brown Shoe Co.
While the company saw strong results and financial improvements in its Famous Footwear and specialty retail businesses, softness in the wholesale division - attributable to Brown's exit of its Bass license in late 2006 and a reduced emphasis on the lower-margin private-label business - dragged down sales and earnings for the first quarter.
In a separate announcement, Brown said that it has hired Sheri Wilson-Gray as SVP and chief marketing officer, officially installing her in the newly created position on June 4. Since 2005, Wilson-Gray has been EVP of marketing for Island Global Yachting and prior to that was EVP and chief marketing officer for Saks Fifth Avenue. ...
