NEW YORK - In a move to diversify its business, R.G. Barry Corp. has acquired the licensing rights for Italian luxe sneaker brand Superga in the U.S. and Canada.
In an interview last week, R. G. Barry President and CEO Greg Tunney said the deal will help the firm, maker of Dearfoams slippers, reduce its dependence on the fall and winter season.
"Our business is obviously very seasonally loaded and we've really been looking for things that have been counter-seasonal," Tunney said. "The canvas business being a more spring-based item, it just made sense to us. We also like the channels of distribution they represent in the luxe market, which is something else we've been looking to get into."
