In some respects, designing an IBM facility is cut and dried. After leasing procedures are completed by the firm's Real Estate Construction Division (RECD) the commissioned designer is issued a set of fairly rigid standards. These include such programmatic input as: space allotment per individual (about 200 square feet); the number of private offices and work stations at both perimeter and core locations; which equipment is to be used for each status level; and even which manufacturers and suppliers are to be used.
