The client, Silicon Graphics Computer Systems, iS a rapidly growing manufacturer of computer work stations with a growth program to match. Its commission, offered to the winner of six competing West Coast firms, entailed development of a master plan for corporate headquarters on a 340,000-sq.-ft. site in the Northern California setting of Mountain View. in scope, the comprehensive project called for the phased build-out of several shell buildings plus completion of the first of the series. illustrated on these three spreads is the initial construction, a concrete shell with a steel flooring system that encompasses 90,000 sq. ft. on two floors.
