A brief background briefing first. Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, seeking to consolidate some 600 employees from Manhattan headquarters and other localities, had, under the aegis of its Facilities and Service department, narrowed down scouting to several locations in upper New York State. At that point, competitive selection of a full-service design group began. The choice was Heery International of Atlanta, with Richard Macri as project designer.
