Renewed CA Focus on Lead is Expected.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

An article in the April 26th Los Angeles Times charges that over 212,000 California children under five have been elevated and dangerous levels of lead in their blood. The article further contends that state officials have been lax in monitoring lead exposure and protecting California's children. The article blames "lead-producing companies" for fighting state efforts to monitor lead and restrict exposure during the 1990s for the current "crisis."

"Hot spots" for lead exposure are identified as including east and south-central Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Monica, the San Fernando Valley, Pasadena, and Rosemead, all in Los Angeles County, as well as San Francisco, Alameda County, Sacramento, and Fresno.
