Each year it seems that the number of environmental and health and safety regulations continue to multiply faster than foundrymen can hope to keep with them. Here is a quick look at some of the critical issues facing today's industry.

PM and Ozone

In the clean air arena, one of the most critical issue facing metalcasters are the particulate matter (PM) and ozone rules. Under the Clean Air Act, the EPA is required to review the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) every five years and consider possible revisions. In February 1994, the American Lung Association sued the EPA for failing to meet that review schedule.
