Bush in the pits

President George Bush stopped at the Chicago Board of Trade and Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in December to tell traders they must continue to lead the nation into expanding international business that will spur the economy and create jobs.

During a semi-campaign visit, Bush met with officials of both exchanges (only after planners made an etiquette faux pas by originally scheduling him to visit only the CME) and community business leaders.

"I've seen the future; it uses hand signals," Bush said, then added "at least for now."

Speaking to an audience in the still-unused upper trading floor of the CME, Bush called the exchange the "bellwether" of financial business.
