US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service official Jim Langley reported that participation and utilization in the corn sector were the same for 1993 and 1994. Langley, who is part of the committee reviewing the 1994-crop Options Pilot Program (OPP), also reported that the bureau failed to use the entire crop allocation due to delayed production in winter wheat areas. The OPP encourages participation of crop producers by offering subsidy to cover the premium for the purchase of put options at strike prices. Langley claims that the USDA will most likely offer OPP in 1995 program.

Final results of the 1994-crop Options Pilot Program (OPP) now are being crunched at USDA, but it looks as if 1994 participation was on par with 1993 levels....
