Thank you, Glen, for that generous introduction. It's a real treat for me to be back here at MIT because I have nothing but fond memories of the place. And before getting to my theme, Succeeding through the Foundations of Science, I want to briefly share some of those memories because they provide context for my remarks.
Those memories contrast sharply with the evaluations I read in which MIT is given low quality of life ratings by students. Not only did I find the line from the MIT song "life is full and good" to be accurate, but I actually had fun here. This was especially true when I was playing rugby with the most diverse group imaginable, but with common bonds--rugby, fun, and science--an unbeatable combination.
