Bob's Discount Furniture, the promotional and mid-priced furniture retailer dominating the Connecticut market, is making a push into area rugs. The company, which has recently pushed into greater Boston, has installed a rug department in its new Stamford store, and the concept will be rolled out to the other 18 units in the next few months. The company has hired Tom Simjian, a veteran rug and furniture retailer, to oversee rug merchandising and sales training.
In the Stamford store, the rug gallery, about 500 square feet, shows furniture vignettes with matching rugs, and perhaps 75 rugs with matching runners hung from swinging racks. The leading vendors are Nourison, Central Oriental and Oriental Weavers. Room-size rugs are priced from $187 to $2,500. ...
