European companies are challenging US dominance in the global media industry. Recent moves bear out their increasing presence in the multimedia sector, such as German publishing giant Bertelsmann AG's acquisition of Random House and Polygram's plans to become a major Hollywood film producer. Europeans are also asserting their dominance in other multimedia markets in the US.
