Ardith Hilliard gets her first chance to run her own newsroom, stepping into the editor's job at Allentown, Pennsylvania's Morning Call. During 12 years at the Los Angeles Times, the last two as associate editor and assistant to the editor, Hilliard, 54, says she'd often thought she'd like such an opportunity but hadn't been actively seeking it when she was approached for the job at the 128,000-circulation daily.
