U.S. Army explores use of alternative fuels

Agri Marketing, April, 2003

Ft. Leonard Wood Army Base in central Missouri celebrated the dedication of its E85 and B20 tank, making it the first Army base to carry two types of alternative fuels. "I applaud and congratulate the Department of the Army for this very significant step in bringing alternative fuels into the mainstream of this extremely large and important military base," says Gary Marshall president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association and immediate past chairman of the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition.

"To be able to the use this homegrown fuel in our own state certainly advances the potential for further growth in ethanol supply." The 10,000-gallon E85 tank will fuel the 42 Flexible Fuel vehicles (FFVs) currently at the base. This number is expected to grow by 75 to 80 in the next few months.
