Robert C. Bartlett purports to show how Aristotle's political beliefs support liberalism but actually turns away people from politics 'into a life of perfect contemplation.' This is in contrast to the 'real Aristotle' whose teachings give a person enough leeway for religion, personal freedom and shared power. In response, Bartlett clarifies that his interpretation of Aristotle's political science points to the 'foundation of knowledge of virtue.'
