Behr Process, Masco Corp. donate to Cal Poly
JCT CoatingsTech, Feb, 2005
California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, has announced that Behr Process, Santa Ana, CA, and its parent company, Masco Corporation, Taylor, MI, have given a combined gift of $300,000 in support of Cal Poly's College of Science and Mathematics. The funds will be used to co-sponsor the Behr/Masco Instrumental Analysis and Testing Center in the new Western Coatings Technology Center (WCTC). So far, Cal Poly has raised more than $1 million toward its goal of $5 million needed to fund the WCTC.
Masco Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of brand-name consumer products for home and family use. Through its philanthropic foundation, the company seeks to help a variety of organizations that serve the communities in which its companies and employees reside.
Behr Process has a long-standing relationship with Cal Poly's College of Science and Mathematics. Many students studying coatings and polymers have held summer internships at the company, and three Cal Poly alumni are currently employed by Behr Process. In addition, faculty from the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department of the College of Sciences and Mathematics have provided specialized training to Behr employees, and many Behr employees have attended the department's short course offerings.
"The WCTC will expand industry-sponsored research on campus while providing state-of-the-art facilities for students to learn and conduct real-world research with faculty and industry mentors," says the college's dean, Philip S. Bailey.
