While everyone longs for the return of the bulls, Robert W. Baird & Co.'s Director of Research Bob Venable says working in a recession is more exciting and challenging.
Everyone knows that doing well in a good year isn't exactly as easy as falling off a log, but Venable might agree that doing well in challenging times -- and liking it -- should be the litmus test of the markets. "It requires us to be a lot sharper, to ask tougher questions," he says, "and I think it creates more opportunities for us to add value. It's made everyone a better analyst."
