Web portal for retailers to be launched by EPA

MMR, August 25, 2008

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to launch a retail-specific Web portal devoted to environmental sustainability and compliance issues, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) states.

The Web portal is due to launch late this year, according to RILA, which, along with other retail industry representatives, has been collaborating with the EPA for several months on the project.

"Sustainability is a key issue and a top concern for RILA and our member companies," says senior vice president for retail operations Casey Chroust. "This portal will serve as a clearinghouse for information to further advance the industry's efforts to apply sustainable practices."

The portal will collect information on sustainability and pollution-prevention practices relevant to the retail sector, and provide easy access to all retail-related environmental compliance information from the EPA's site.
