GOOD ECONOMIC SIGNS: The Commerce Department has reported that personal incomes in the United States grew at a 0.4% annual rate in September, while core consumer prices (excluding food and energy costs) rose at a 0.2% rate. A separate report noted a decline in first-time unemployment claims for the week ended October 27.

Analysts say the reports suggest that the U.S. economy was steady at the start of the fourth quarter.
