Traditionally, most enterprise asset management (EAM) systems focus on ensuring uptime for plant equipment such as turbines, compressors, or other major pieces of machinery. However, a manufacturer's assets extend beyond the plant floor--a fact the EAM vendor MRO Software is addressing with solutions for several new asset classes, including information technology (IT) and transportation.

MRO Software expanded its capabilities in these areas via the June 2002 acquisition of MainControl, a supplier of IT asset management systems. This investment was the genesis for a new module in MRO Software's flagship Maximo EAM system that allows users to locate all PCs, as well as track warranties, leases, and software compliance issues.
