Sterling commerce bolsters data sync market share.(Views from the front)

Samuel Starr, president and CEO of Sterling Commerce, is placing a bet on data synchronization. While 95 percent of the transactions flowing through the company are EDI-based, Starr's aim is adding income from the rich field of data exchange and data synchronization--the process of coordinating product item data between manufacturers and retailers via third-party registries or data pools.

Until April, five companies did the lion's share of data cleansing and synchronization through the UCCnet repository. Then Sterling acquired the leading UCCnet data sync software company, TR2 Consulting. Here's what Starr had to say about data consolidation, synchronization, and coordination:
