Adobe makes the leap to enterprise-class applications.(Document Management)

Adobe Systems is best known for two desktop applications--the Acrobat program that creates portable document format (PDF) files; and the companion Acrobat Reader that allows users to read PDF files. Now Adobe is hoping that an enterprise-class application that depends on some of the same technology that drives the Acrobat programs can prove just as popular.

Adobe's Intelligent Document Platform takes raw output from other enterprise applications, formats it, and turns it into "intelligent" documents that can either be circulated through the enterprise in a workflow process, or transmitted to trading partners over the Internet, according to Adobe's Director of Marketing, Shawn Cadeau.
