Expecting more of the threats and challenges that William Kennard put forth at his 2000 CES speech, attendees instead head about the bright future of DTV and how enthusiastic the FCC chair is about helping broadcasters make it happen. "I fundamentally believe the future of digital broadcasting is very bright," said Kennard. "I want to work with you to ensure that all Americans across this great land reap the benefits," he continued. He did offer some cautious words for industry members intent on delaying the digital transition, particularly those who believe a viable business model has yet to emerge. "I believe digital technology is the biggest opportunity for broadcasters in a generation," Kennard said. "Convergence is fundamentally about finding a new business model....
