DDI Opts for Qualcomm's cdma2000 3G Format.(Brief Article)

Dealerscope: The Business of CE Retailing, June, 2000 by Ueda, Mike

DDI back in March decided to use W-CDMA, the next generation system developed by NTT DoCoMo and supported by European companies. However, the company recently concluded that Qualcomm's cdma2000 format would be less costly to deploy than W-CDMA and would enable it to better compete with NTT DoCoMo.

As a result of DDI's decision, Qualcomm is expected to withdraw its plan to enter the next-generation service market in Japan.
