Teacher evaluation is a hazardous and complex undertaking, perhaps because the concepts of teaching and evaluation are multifaceted and complex. What one knows, thinks one knows, and believes about teaching will have a strong bearing on the focus and judgments of an evaluation process. Similarly, one's understandings and beliefs regarding the nature and purpose of evaluation also are central to the process of teacher evaluation.
